Mold Removal Process

Water Removal- Water moisture must first be removed from an area that has a mold problem so that the mold cannot continue to grow. The humidity in the area must also be monitored. A dehumidifier may be used if the humidity in the room is over 55%.  If there has been severe flooding or a water leak it is critical that the water is pumped out. All wet materials must then be moved out of the area. The quicker these issues are addressed the less damage there will be.

Dust Removal- One of the main transportation moods that mold uses is dust. It is important to remove dust and contain the area where it was removed from. Each room should be cleaned separately. During this cleaning the areas should be sealed off from the rest of the property. After this, an exhaust fan is placed near an open door or window that is open to the outside of the building. This causes a negative air pressure which will cause the air in the room to flow outside. This will ensure that any remaining mold particles that were stirred up during the cleaning process will not remain. It is critical to turn the HVAC system off before cleaning mold.

Cleaning Mold- Before an area is cleaned it is first lightly misted with water. If the mold has been there for a long time it will be too dry to properly clean without moisture. Once this step is taken, the area gets disinfected and as much of the mold is removed as possible. All of the surrounding areas will also be cleaned. Even if mold is not visible, there could still be spots where spores are lingering. Once the area has been disinfected and cleaned, it will then be completely dried.

Mold Disposal- Once all of the mold and mold-infested materials have been gathered they will be placed in a heavy-duty plastic bag. The bags will be disposed of out of a window. You do not want to carry these bags back through the property as they could contaminate other areas. The mold will then be carefully discarded so that it does not spread anywhere else. The bags should then be taken to a landfill.
